Speeches and forex (they go together)

A  quick late night thought here. We’ve talked a bit here about how speeches from various policy makers cause moves in forex. Today was a great example. Let’s take a quick look.
Econ data that was released didn’t get a ton of juice. Nothing out of the ordinary. Lagarde begins a jaw session and we get moves. Sizeable moves. Wasn’t much out there that would have hit the dollar, and then she pops it in the mouth.
Looking later in the day we get Yellen for her session and we get a little more action. These are both key policy makers and you can expect when they open there mouths that you will see movement. As a trader, movement is opportunity. When data is light, a speech can give you a play. In a week like this which has NFP and multiple high level jaw sessions, the opportunities abound. Yes there is heightened risk, but discipline and risk management are your friend. So is opportunity!
There are many lower lever policy makers speaking throughout every week. They don’t get the coverage or usually have as large of an effect, but they provide opportunity. Small shots, but can also be unexpectedly volatile. Its one more reason to pay attention to who is on the horizon.  Both from an opportunity view and not getting trapped when one hits that you didn’t know.
